August is officially Fishing Month. One of the joys of staying at Bearnock Lodge is our magnificent setting. Mountain bike trails, walking trails and nature reserves are all within easy reach of the house. But if fishing is your thing, you’re in luck. In this month’s article, we’re exploring a few of the fishing activities available to you when you visit the Highlands of Scotland.

Fishing Activities in the Highlands of Scotland

Both Loch Ness and nearby, Inverness, are perfect destinations for the keen angler. You can enjoy game fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout all with the beautiful backdrop that the Highlands of Scotland provide. You do need to be fully aware of fishing rights and rules in Scotland. But if you use an organised tour operator or visit an angling club, you can rest assured that you are fishing within the law.

So, we thought we would share a few resources to help you enjoy fishing activities in the Highlands of Scotland.

The Inverness Angling Club:

The Inverness Angling Club manage the lower three miles of the River Ness. While membership of the club is open to residents of Inverness and a handful of adjacent areas, you will receive a warm welcome as a visitor. The club offers daily tickets for visitors. Alternatively, visitors can apply for associate membership.

For more information on where to purchase a day pass or how to apply for associate membership, visit the club’s website.

Fish Loch Ness:

The good people at Fish Loch Ness offer half-day and full-day bespoke fishing trips from Easter to mid-September. Your party of up to seven (with four anglers sat any one time) have exclusive use of the boat. You’ll also benefit from Stuart MacDonald’s fishing knowledge, the team’s highly experienced fisherman and ghillie. All equipment is included. A perfect family day out. Visit the Fish Loch Ness website.

Screaming Reels Scotland:

Screaming Reels Scotland provide Highland fishing activities for anglers of all abilities. From the absolute novice to the seasoned angler. They will guide you to your perfect catch, whether that may be salmon, wild brown trout or pike. Visit the website here.

After your day out, you’ll be able to return to Bearnock Lodge with your catch. Our well-equipped kitchen is ideal if you want to cook up a storm. The spacious panelled dining room is the perfect backdrop to enjoy your gourmet and freshly-caught supper.
